All interested breeders are invited to our Information Evening, which will be held at Ballarat Lodge at 7:30 pm on Tuesday the 6th of August 2013.
During the evening our vets will present information and take questions on a number of topics relevent to successful horse breeding.
The programme kicks off with Dr Anne Jacobson talking on foaling: an outline of the normal birth process in the mare incuding length of gestation and timing of foaling; stages of parturition; position of the foal before and during birth; complications; and all aspects of supervision including when to intervene and what can go wrong.
Dr Liana Peters will continue the story with a discussion of the newborn foal: how a normal foal behaves; suckling, sleeping and doing laps; the critical time periods; signs of illness and how to prevent disaster.
Liana's next topic is common surgical procedures where she will describe some operations that may be necessary in the first few months of life, and help understand when and why these are performed.
Dr Annemarie Kemmink will then take the floor with information about putting mares in foal, including an update on assisted reproduction techniques that are available including deep intrauterine insemination, embryo transfers, semen enhancement, and many more.
Questions will be welcome both during and after all the talks, and refreshments will be available.
